M&C Hammer’s Oversized Pants Mercilessly Roasted In Comedy Spot For Software Co

Let’s be honest, online security is mostly pretty dull until someone steals your identity and bank passwords and starts shopping from Nigeria.

As Optus and more recently Medibank Private have fast learned, data theft is no laughing matter if you don’t want an angry customer exodus.

Now personal finance firm Santander has put some fun into its anti-scam software with new work starring British comics and TV personalities, Ant and Dec.

The amusing TVC reprises the 1990 dance anthem, MC Hammer’s hypnotic “U Can’t Touch This”, and sees the duo don a pair of  “fraud detecting scammer pants” that magically inflate when confronted by an online scam.

The spot’s called “Stop! Scammer Time” and is the work of London-based creative agency House 337, production agency Merman, in collaboration with Mitre Studios.

Commenting on the spot, Dan Sherwood, director of marketing at Santander UK, said: “If we can get people to hear the words ‘Scammer time’ and pause when they’re about to part with money or personal details – then hopefully we can help thwart more of these criminals.”

Watch the fun below. Or, at least reminisce back to the 90s below:
