Nine Re-Hires Alex Parsons As Acting MD Of Events & Entertainment

After more than a year since leaving Nine, Alex Parsons has returned to the media company to manage the process of divesting what was Fairfax Media’s events business.

Parsons, who was previously Nine’s chief digital officer, replaces Martin Jolly, who is the company’s current managing director of events and entertainment.

Nine said in a statement that Jolly is “stepping out of the business at this time to enable him to join with other parties who could bid for the business in the future”.

Chris Janz, managing director of publishing at Nine, said: “We would like to thank Martin for the hard work and commitment he has shown to the business, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Commenting on his appointment, Parsons said: “I am really excited to return to Nine. The events division is a strong and vibrant business that will be enhanced by the sale to a buyer who can realise its full value, and I am looking forward to positioning it for further growth and expansion.

“Nine will continue to have a strategic commercial partnership through our ongoing events such as the Sun Herald City2Surf and the Good Food Month.”

Fairfax’s events business became part of the Nine portfolio as part of the companies’ $4 billion merger.

A Nine spokesperson told B&T that it has no timeframe on the sale of the events business as yet, but is in talks with interested buyers.
