Mamamia Brings On New Editor As Jamila Rizvi Takes Step Back From Exec Management

Mamamia Women’s Network editor-in-chief Jamila Rizvi has taken on a new role as editor at large, stepping away from exec management from 4 January.

While Rizvi will continue to contribute to Mamamia as a writer, podcast host, and spokeswoman in the media, her new priorities involve making more time to write a book, deliver various freelance content and spend time with her new family.

Kate DeBrito will be taking on the job of editor at Mamamia.

“Jamila has reached a phase in her life where she wants something different,” Mamamia founder Mia Freedman told B&T about Rizvi’s decision to spend more time with her new son.

“It’s certainly taken her by surprise and delight.”

“In a workforce where 95 per cent of our employees are women, we need to be flexible and adaptable to the needs and demands of our employees. We’re very adept at dealing with this and we embrace it wholeheartedly.

“I am excited for my friend about this next phase of her life,” Freedman added in her post, which you can read here.

“She’s not stepping away from work altogether. She’s still going to be contributing in a creative sense to Mamamia as Editor At Large and getting stuck into some projects of her own including a book I can’t wait to read. But she’s stepping away from management. Her career trajectory has changed.”

Freedman also told B&T that DeBrito is “very much the right person for the job” and she is confident she’ll bring plenty of wisdom and experience to the role.
