KFC Debuts Driverless Food Trucks For Socially Distanced Chicken

It’s official – KFC China is the coolest KFC in the world

Earlier this month we brought you news of the new Pizza Hut x KFC Chicken Popcorn Pizza that had launched in China, putting KFC’s signature chicken on a pizza.

But now KFC China has stepped up again, deploying autonomous 5G food trucks to serve customers their chicken in a way that minimises human contact and promotes social distancing.

SoyaCincau reports that the driverless trucks have been deployed in Shanghai. To make an order, customers must simply use the touchscreen to select their item and then pay via QR-code. After the payment is made the door will open with the order ready for collection.

The autonomous vehicle appears to be the work of Neolix, a Beijing-based autonomous delivery shuttle company that recently secured $US29 million to mass-produce these mini food trucks.

The vehicles can detect and avoid obstacles and can travel 100km on a single charge with a maximum speed of 50km/h.

The company is also working with Pizza Hut to produce a similar product, according to reports.
