The documentary film, Dykes On Bikes: An Origin Story, was directed by Kate Cornish in conjunction with Canon Australia.
Cornish’s latest project takes a look at the history of the Dykes on Bikes, one of the most prolific groups in the Sydney LGBTQIA+ community.
Despite having ridden in the Sydney Mardi Gras since 1988, this is the first documentary looking into the history of the group, and joins a series of portraits shot to promote these motorcycle queens.
Cornish worked alongside Steph Jowett and Tilly Robba to make the project a reality, and said that the final result is something they are “very proud of”.
“As members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and a member of The Dykes on Bikes, it’s important to showcase the group’s history outside of its presence within Mardi Gras Parade, and the impact they’ve had over their 30+ year history,” said Cornish.
