The Internet is becoming all agog with reports surfacing streaming giant Netflix has started serving ads to customers.
Per numerous media reports, the streaming service, which has taken Australia by storm since its Aussie launch in March this year, has been serving trailers for its content.
However, when The Verge contacted Netflix for comment on the alleged ads, Netflix said they weren’t ads in the traditional sense.
“They are trailers for Netflix originals. As you know, we test hundreds of potential improvements to the service every year. Many never extend beyond that.”
Similarly, Vice Media is reporting Netflix is experimenting with both pre and post-roll ads, pushing its own content to users.
Yesterday news surfaced Netflix had its sights set on signing up more than one million users, which would give it more than half the market share in the streaming space.
Predictably, Twitter users have shared their immense distaste if Netflix were to start serving proper ads.
