Swisse has dropped retired swimmer Geoff Huegill as brand ambassador in the face of drug-use allegations, with AUSTSWIM following suit and suspending the swimmer from the same role.
Geoff Huegill and his wife Sarah Hill were allegedly caught with a small quantity of what appeared to be cocaine at Sydney’s Randwick racecourse on Saturday.
Vitamin company Swisse told The Sydney Morning Herald that upon hearing the news that they would no longer be renewing Huegill’s contract, which is due to expire at the end of the month.
''We have not used Geoff in any above-the-line advertising over the past 12 months and we notified Swimming Australia several weeks ago that we would not be renewing our partnership when the contract expired at the end of May,'' Swisse told The Sydney Morning Herald.
Australia’s national organisation for the teaching of swimming and water safety, AUSTSWIM, told the MailOnline that Huegill is "suspended" from his long-held role as an AUSTSWIM ambassador.
"The alleged incident is out of character but AUSTSWIM has zero tolerance and we've suspended the relationship to let natural justice take its course." Gordon Mallet, AUSTSWIM chief executive, told MailOnline.
The couple’s lawyer, Paul Hunt, has confirmed the charges but says they do not intend to comment further as yet.
