News publication The Guardian is all set to launch a new extension of its app, created specifically for Apple’s new smartwatch, Apple Watch.

Called ‘Moments’ The Guardian took to a self-published article to describe in detail what the offering entails.

The ‘Moments’ of editorial will vary throughout the day, with quick updates in the morning, or reminders to read that article you saved. The pace during the week and the weekend will also differ.

“We wanted the editorial offering to be informative, delightful and to span across multiple formats to showcase the breadth of the journalism we produce,” explained Subhajit Banerjee from The Guardian.

“Along with the top news story of the moment and push alerts for breaking news, you will also see the best photos of the day chosen by our experts, glimpses of our well loved feature content such as recipes, life and relationship advice, music and film reviews, science and technology podcasts and a lot more.”

The content changes too for Aussies who have both The Guardian app and an Apple Watch. Aussies with both will get the top Australian story of the day and breaking news alerts from the Down Under team.

For additional content, users will be directed to the UK edition.

“Of course, this is our first pass at a content proposition for an entirely new platform, and based on feedback we receive we hope to make changes and improvements as we go along,” added Banerjee.

The Apple Watch has made waves in the industry, particularly this past week when its release date was announced. The internet got its knickers in a knot at the thought one version of the Watch, Apple Watch Edition, could cost upwards of $10,000.

It’s also showing just how high tech it’s prepared to go, launching programmatic ads early this year.

It’s tipped other brands are building apps for the Apple Watch, with The Australian suggesting Aussie supermarket giant Woolworths is among them.
