Gold Coast design agency Flagship Digital has debuted on Hong Kong’s ultra- competitive creative market with a brand and fitout for new high-end venue VCNCY.

The exclusive venue has room for only 22 and sits in the heart of Hong Kong’s pulsing nightlife district SoHo, right next door to reigning hotspot La Vache!

Flagship digital director Fady Hanna said VCNCY’s shipping container aesthetic was inspired by Hong Kong’s sprawling Kwai Tsing Container Terminals, as well as the tight footprint of the site.

“The size of the site ended up directly informing the exclusivity of the brand in many ways,” said Hanna.

“The central philosophy that ‘if it doesn’t need to be there, it won’t be’ is reflected in both the fitout and even how words were spelled – VCNCY is the venue name and DRNKS are on the menu.”

Flagship’s space-conscious brand covered interior design, fixtures, menu, web presence and even the minimalist presentation of the Korean contemporary food and choice of artwork.

VCNCY is the new offering from Justine Lo, daughter of Hong Kong hospitality icon Dennis Lo, mastermind behind the phenomenal growth of the 111-outlet Fairwood fast food chain.

Ms Lo said Hanna and Flagship creative director Pete Morris developed the brand after a recce to Hong Kong to meet with her and survey the site.

“Fady and Pete delivered a complete brand that captured the exact attitude and vibe that our restaurant needed,” said Lo.

“They came to visit us in Hong Kong to truly understand what was required and of course they were extremely easy and fun to work.”

VCNCY is the first international commission for Burleigh Heads-based Flagship, and its first hospitality venue brand.

Hanna said the hospitality industry is often more resistant to leveraging branding than other sectors.

“So for us it was refreshing to work with a client who saw the potential of really making a statement with their property,” he said.

“SoHo is just so competitive for venues, if you’re not providing a top-quality experience, you’re open for a month tops.”

VCNVY opens with two VIP functions on August 7 and 8.
