Giant Zombie Hand Set To Rot Over The Sydney Opera House

A giant Walking Dead ‘walker’ hand is being installed on the steps of the Sydney Opera House ahead of the season six return of the TV show next Monday.

The four metre high by 2.9 metre wide ‘decomposing hand’ will be unvieled at 11AM this Saturday, the hand will be protruding from the steps welcoming fans to the gates of The Walking Dead safe zone ‘Alexandria’.

FX marketing and digital media manager Jamie Zarzycki said: ‘“When a giant Walker hand emerges from beneath the harbour through the Sydney Opera House steps it can mean only one thing… The countdown is well and truly underway for the eagerly anticipated premiere of the sixth season of The Walking Dead on FX.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the 2015 GRAPHIC festival line-up that will see a horde of DEADicated fans be amongst the first people in Australia to watch the extended premiere episode not only on the big screen but inside the iconic Sydney Opera House. We’ve been shuffling around behind the scenes with the team at the Sydney Opera House, Messina and GRAPHIC to deliver fans a staggering event that will be talked about for seasons to come.”

As well as the rotting hand, FX and Messina have opened a pop up gelato store at the Opera House, giving DEADicated fans a chance to sink their teeth into a complimentary limited edition cup of ‘Carls Pudding’.

“Making bloody fingers and edible brains from gelato was right up our street, so when FX came to us about the project we jumped straight into the kitchen to test how we could make something scary and delicious in one go. Fast forward a few days of tasting, testing and layers of chocolate gelato, we’ve made a Messina version of Carl’s Chocolate Pudding and thrown in some added surprises” said co-owner of Gelato Messina Declan Lee.

The pop up store will be open from 12-4pm this weekend.
