Facebook has aired its cool credentials ahead of tomorrow’s Olympic’s opening, releasing a series of spots that celebrate skateboarding’s arrival as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Games.
The four spots are the work of lauded creative agency Droga5 and come with the tagline ‘We change the game when we find each other’, with the overarching theme being how the social media platform brings people together through a universal love of skateboarding.
All four spots were shot by different directors (including pop-R&B icon FKA Twigs) in locations including California, New York, South Korea and Ghana and are set to run during US broadcaster NBC’s Olympics coverage.
The multi-app campaign also includes creative for Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Blue App and Oculus.
Check out the four films below that certainly show how fun the sport actually is.

Commenting on the work, Felix Richter, Droga5’s co-chief creative officer, said: “The skateboarding debut at the Olympics this summer felt like the perfect moment to tell stories about how the sport has also evolved to become more inclusive and illustrate the role Facebook’s suite of apps have played – helping people find each other in sports and beyond – to build great things.”
Andrew Stirk, Facebook’s vice president of global company marketing added: “Facebook is proud to celebrate skateboarding and its athletes around the world, as the sport takes the global stage in Tokyo for the first time.
“Skateboarding is a grassroots sport and culture, centered around connection and community. This work celebrates the authentic stories of skaters using our platforms to find each other, broaden the culture, and push the sport forward,” Stirk said.
