Doctors Slam “Mummy Makeover” Ad On Shop A Dockets

Doctors have slammed a “mummy makeover” ad that appeared on the back of a shopping receipt and offered mothers post-pregnancy surgery.

The ad from an Australian-based company International Aesthetics offers a $1,000 discount for a surgery and travel package in the Philippines that normally costs $12,990.

Featured on the back of a recent pharmacy receipt from a Perth Chemist Warehouse store, the ad includes offers of a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, flights to Manila, accommodation and more.

However, doctors have slammed the ad, worrying it could result in postnatal depression.

Australian Medical Association WA vice-president Mark Duncan-Smith told The West Australian: “There is a real danger of actually causing problems with postnatal depression, body image issues and I don’t think it’s an appropriate group to be [doing this] with.

“I would recommend against this at a physical level and I would recommend against this at a psychological level.”

Duncan-Smith also said women who have recently given birth have a higher risk of getting blood clots while travelling on an international flight, claiming what the ad is offering is “less than inappropriate”.

A spokeswoman from Chemist Warehouse distanced itself from the promotion, saying: “In terms of the approval process for Shop A Docket, this is managed in its entirety by Shop A Docket.

“Chemist Warehouse do not approve any non-Chemist Warehouse product advertisements featured on these dockets.”
