Strategic communications advisory firm, Colony has announced three of its employees are currently in the running to win the 2022 AWARD School competition.
Colony’s successful entrants Jack Morgan (featured image, left), Gabrielle Wild (right) and Josh O’Rourke (centre) are all graphic designers who hope the course will open the door to art direction roles.
For those not in-the-know, AWARD School is organised by the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association, and is Australia’s premier advertising creative talent growth program.
It is a high-pressure, 12-week course where students learn the techniques and discipline needed to develop creative ideas preparing them for work in ad agency creative departments as copywriters and art directors.
Each week during the course, students are required to respond to a different creative brief, and present it to their tutors, who are local advertising creatives donating their expertise.
Competition to get in is high, with approximately 15 students accepted in each state out of hundreds of applicants nationally every year.
Morgan joined Colony in 2018, and his portfolio includes animation, illustration and video editing, while Wild has five years’ experience in graphic design after completing honours in design futures at Griffith in 2016.
Last, but not least, O’Rourke is an interactive visual design graduate fresh out of QUT with experience in 3D modelling.
“It’s rare for three students to be accepted from one company in the same year. We’re lucky to have such a strong stable of fresh talent,” said Colony executive creative director, Simon Buutveld.
With 60 team members in Brisbane, Cairns and Port Moresby, the professional growth of emerging talent is a strong focus at Colony.
“We are all very proud of Gabi, Jack and Josh and look forward to seeing their continued success,” Buutveld added.
The 2022 AWARD School winners will be announced on August 16.
