Overly affectionate parents are the stars of a witty – if slightly creepy – campaign for Mars via Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.

The ad’s the second instalment of its ‘Enough Chocolate to Deal with Anything’ platform, titled ‘Kissers’.

The TVC showcases the uncomfortable first meeting of a loved-one’s parents, who quickly admit to being a family of ‘kissers’. As the new boyfriend leans in for a peck on the cheek from his girlfriend’s mum, it’s evident what the family meant when they said they were kissers, as the mum plants a firm kiss on the lips on the boyfriend, quickly followed by the dad.

The boyfriend is then seen happily enjoying a Mars Bar with his shocked girlfriend standing beside him, while the mother announces grandma has arrived.

Suzanne Morrison, marketing director at Mars Wrigley Confectionery said: “Being kissed on the lips by your new girlfriend’s parents is not a situation anyone wants to get stuck in. Luckily this guy had a Mars bar on hand to help deal with it.”

“Mars and Clemenger BBDO have designed the new brand creative to show Australians how the chocolate bar can provide the confidence they need to overcome any future awkward situations.”

The new brand platform has launched through 15’ second TVC’s, 6’ bumpers, OOH, social, digital as well as a roll out of activations over the coming months.
