Christmas Ad Wrap: It’s The Pick Of The UK Festive Spots So Far

Christmas Ad Wrap: It’s The Pick Of The UK Festive Spots So Far

When it comes to terrific Christmas ads, it’s not unfair to say the Brits can put us Aussies in the shade.

While most Aussie ads rely on the cliched prawn/pavlova approach, the UK creative agencies get big budgets and big ideas to show off retailers at their festive best.

And it may only be the first week of November, but already the bauble-infused work’s starting to flood in.

Here’s the first five to roll in from key British retailers Currys PC World, ALDI, Argos, Lidl and Asda. Check out the spots below:

Currys PC World via Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO

Typically on the festive money, Currys has once again nailed its 2018 ad with a Victorian approach with a rather clever modern technology take.

ALDI via McCann UK

The German grocery chain returns with last year’s Kevin The Carrot character. The spot plays on Coke’s famous Christmas truck and a scene from The Italian Job. With no discernible ending, it’s safe to assume its the first part of a trilogy of ads leading up to the 25th.

Argos via The & Partnership London

A slightly confusing number from the Brit retailer titled “The Christmas fool” sees a pink imp reap havoc on peoples’ Christmases. The tag being that Argos’ delivery and collection service can save you from festive disasters.

Lidl via TBWA/London

The budget German grocer – soon to arrive on Australian shores – plugs its cheap gin and monster Christmas tree in a witty but simple spot by TBWA/London.

Asda via Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO

The discount retailer takes a rather eccentric approach in its “Bring Christmas home” campaign all set to Darlene Love’s Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home).
