News Corp Australia has announced the appointment of Charlie Murdoch as its new head of trade marketing.

Murdoch joins News Corp from NewsMediaWorks, where worked as its marketing director for almost five years. Prior to that, Murdoch held marketing roles at oOh!media, EYE Corp Media and Austereo.

His appointment Charlie’s appointment comes amid a wider restructure of News Corp’s group marketing function, with trade marketing now under the umbrella of national sales managing director Lou Barrett.

“We are thrilled to welcome a media executive of Charlie’s calibre into this vital role and know that his experience, talent and strategic vision will ensure we deliver our bold ambitions for a redefined and reimagined trade marketing capability,” Barrett said.

“Charlie is an exceptionally talented media professional, and the insights and rich understanding of media he brings to this role will help transform and elevate how we communicate who we are and how we deliver for the Australian market.

“I’m delighted he has accepted this role and look forward to working together as we build the future showcase of News Corp Australia.”

Commenting on Murdoch’s departure from NewsMediaWorks, CEO Peter Miller said News Corp has made a “savvy” appointment.

“He has led the corporate comms and marketing for news media for five volatile years, demonstrating a sound understanding of the narrative,” Miller said.

“He leaves us at a time of increasing buoyancy in news media as advertisers come back to print and premium digital, and the big news media houses innovate at pace to create new revenue opportunities.”
