Satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo has released the cover it will use on the anniversary of the tragic shootings in 2015.

The special edition will be available on newsstands on Wednesday, reports The Guardian, with one million copies printed in France and thousands more sent elsewhere in the world.

The writing on the cover reads: “One year after. The killer still at large.”

On January 7 2015, the office of Charlie Hebdo was the target of a mass shooting which killed 12 people, eight being the magazine’s staff. Some of the victims were the publication’s well-known cartoonists, including editor, Stephane Charbonnier.

The issue will reportedly include cartoons from five artists who were killed in the attack, as well as an editorial segment from Laurent Sourisseau, who was injured during the shooting and took over management of the publication.

At the time of the attack, many cartoonists from other publications around the globe came out in support and tribute of the magazine with cartoons of their own. The world news organisations also took a stand behind the publication.

Charlie Hebdo is famous for its satirical and provocative cartoons and stories, and while it doesn’t hold back from sending a big ‘f-you’ to the people behind the Paris attacks, it has certainly been on the receiving end of much backlash.

The publication came under fire late last year for a cover that was seen to be mocking the death of the drowning Syrian toddler, Aylan Kurdi. The image the cover inspired had gone viral beforehand, drawing attention about the refugee crisis around the world.

However, social media was none too pleased about the mocking, erupting at the cover some seemed “puerile, disgraceful and outrageous”.
