Big Smiles All Round SCA As Hamish & Andy Boost Hit Network
Hamish & Andy’s return to national drive on Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has undoubtedly been a coup for the radio network, with the head of Today Network David Cameron telling B&T the best is yet to come.
“The Hit Network is absolutely back and flying and the best is still yet to come with Hamish & Andy with a full survey period with them,” he said of the results this morning.
While much of the success of the survey is down to Hamish & Andy, Cameron stressed it was also down to the network refining its music product and growing its breakfast show.
It’s the first survey Hamish & Andy have been involved in since their return to radio, and SCA CEO Grant Blackley’s touting of the duo as “rockstars” apparently rings true for SCA.
From a broad perspective of the results of survey 5 released by GfK today show SCA’s Hit Network is up in numerous categories, increasing by as much as 6.8 per cent in Perth in the 18-24 age brackets and 4.7 per cent in the 25-39 demographic.
In Sydney, the results show SCA’s Hit Network share in all demographics (except for people aged 55-64) rose. In Melbourne it was a similar situation, with FOXFM jumping 3.6 per cent in the 18-24 year old bracket to dominate with 23.7 per cent.
NOVA Entertainment also had a sweet result this survey, with smoothfm taking out the top spot for FM stations, with NOVA’s national drive show Kate, Tim & Marty seeing numerous uplifts throughout its shows.
In Sydney, NOVA took out number the top spot for FM in people aged 10-17 (20.7 per cent), in 18-24 (19.1 per cent)
Moving on to the Australian Radio Network (ARN), while Kyle & Jackie O from KIIS 1065 slipped back a bit in Sydney brekkie, overall the network is pretty happy.
ARN’s national content director Duncan Campbell said of the results: “Overall it’s another solid result for ARN today. We have the most listened to station in Sydney with KIIS 1065 and continue to own the number one and number two FM Breakfast shows in Sydney, and maintain the overall leadership positions in Adelaide and Brisbane. We have continued growth in both stations in Melbourne and we again retain the number one national network position.”
Below is a breakdown from the five cities around Australia, outlining the top three in brekkie and drive radio.
