Aussie Publication Puts The Spotlight On Fijian Fashion

Lita Magazine has launched its much-anticipated Spring issue with a double cover and main fashion editorials dedicated to Fijian fashion combined with Australian fashion.

Fiji’s top models are featured, staying true to Lita Magazine’s edict of showcasing “the next generation of fashion and beauty”.

Editor-in-chief Heidi Huttunen said: “Both covers represent Fiji as the world knows it but both also show what the world doesn’t always see…

“Fiji’s urban sophistication and a globally viable fashion industry that the Australian market can explore.”

The Lita team–editor-in-chief/photographer, Heidi Huttunen; fashion editor/Stylist, Shannon Clayworth; beauty editor/hair and make-up artist, Keli Stack- was invited by the Fashion Council of Fiji (FCF) to attend the inaugural Fijian Fashion Festival, held in Suva, June 2018.

Although a fashion week has existed in Fiji for 10 years and Fiji has had a thriving fashion industry for 50+ years, FCF believed that a new platform and format was needed to take the Fijian fashion industry to the next level.

The Fijian Fashion Festival’s goal was to connect designers directly to external markets.

The best way to do this was to partner with an international publication that worked outside of the paradigm and was willing to showcase Fijian designers in their proper global context.

As Lita team members already support Pacific community fashion events in Sydney and are respected for their commitment to bolstering new talent, LITA Magazine was the perfect vehicle for this task.

FCF chairman Fuzz Ali said: “With Australia being our nearest, biggest fashion market, our designers need exposure within that market. In styling looks that incorporate Fijian and Australian designs, Shannon Clayworth is educating fashion connoisseurs how to bring a Fijian aesthetic into an Australian context.”
