Independent media agency Alchemy One has announced that it has become B Corp certified, marking Alchemy One as one of the few media agencies globally to earn the prestigious designation.

With only 4 per cent of the 100,000 companies who have gone through the process is successfully certified, the Alchemy One team is tremendously proud to join the ranks of industry leaders in ethically run businesses.

Two years in the making, this accreditation publicly and voluntarily commits Alchemy One to uphold a purpose-driven business, meet the highest social and environmental standards, and support a local economy that benefits all.

Managing director, Joel Trethowan, said: “As Alchemy One grew, we realised we had an opportunity to define our company’s goals with purpose at the core. And that this, in fact, better enables us to achieve outstanding growth for our clients.

“Alchemy One has always been about building something bigger than ourselves. Through addressing positive change for the brand partners we work with, the environment and our staff, we believe we can create a better place to work and live. We are truly honoured to join this global movement.”

Certified B Corporations® are businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, ultimately balancing profit and purpose.

B Corps® become certified through a thoroughly vetted process by B Lab® and join an elite group of companies using business as a force for good.

Through the certification process, B Corps are evaluated for the company’s overall impact on its community, employees, customers and the environment.

B Lab Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand CEO, Andrew Davies, said: “I congratulate Alchemy One for driving a purpose-driven agenda in the media industry.

“We need leaders from all sectors to truly transform the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.”

To achieve its high score in the assessment, Alchemy One implemented a ban on working with the fossil fuel, gambling, tobacco and alcohol industries, a strong diversity and inclusion strategy, environmental practices inside and outside the office, as well as high employee engagement and satisfaction, further highlighted by Alchemy One having the lowest attrition rate in the industry.

The 4,000 certified B Corporations around the world believe it is time to expand on how success is measured in the business world. As a B Corp, Alchemy One will measure and manage the impact of its business on its staff, community and the environment with as much rigour as its profits.

Trethowan added: “We humbly join this group of business leaders, including Patagonia, Bank Australia, Future Super, Guardian Australia, Small Giants and fellow media agency Benedictus Media as B Corp certified. We look forward to further improving our B Corp score in the years ahead.

“For Alchemy One, B Corp certification means being a company that deeply values true diversity and equity, minimising our environmental impact, and caring for our staff.

“We strive to challenge our industry to refuse to work with those accelerating climate change or damaging communities.

“For any agency, partner or brand that wants to see a world that equally values people, planet and profit, I strongly encourage you to look into certifying as a B Corp.”
