The digital industry’s body AIMIA has appointed CarAdvice.com.au’s  former chief executive David Holmes CEO to replace John Butterworth who stepped down in June.

Holmes (pictured) has more than 17 years experience in the digital industry under his belt, he was the first digital member, and youngest, appointed to the board of the Advertising Federation of Australia (AFA).

AIMIA president Tim O’Neill said: “David brings to AIMIA rock solid digital media experience and a deep understanding of growth and innovation within the digital industry.”

“He has overseen some exceptional successes during his career and I am excited about the great direction and vision he will bring to AIMIA in his new role,” added O’Neill who is also MD of Reactive.

Holmes will remains on the CarAdvice board with Justin Whelan having taken on top role in May this year. At the time Holmes said he was stepping down from the site to focus on other business interests, including a start-up in the peer-to-peer commerce space.

Holmes replaces John Butterworth who announced his departure from AIMIA after almost nine years in June.

His last day as the head of AIMIA was September 13. Recruitment firm Harvey Nash was hired to help the industry body select a replacement.

On his appointment Holmes said: “I’m delighted to be joining the AIMIA community especially at a time when Australia is rapidly growing into a digital leader.”

“I believe that Australia has the most hard working and innovative digital community in the world and I am excited about the future of Australia's digital economy as a major driver of local and international commercial success. I would like to thank the CarAdvice Board for their support over the past four years especially with the transition to this role.”
