Controversial Anti-Smoking Outdoor Billboard Coughs When It Whiffs Fag Smoke

An out of home billboard for a quit-smoking aid has been launched in Stockholm that “coughs” when it whiffs cigarette smoke from passing smokers.

The ad for Swedish smoking aid firm Apotek Hjärtat uses embedded smoke detectors that trigger a video of a young actor coughing aggressively when a smoker passes by. The ad was part of the pharmaceutical company’s drive to make smokers quit for the New Year.

Check the campaign (with subtitles) out here:

The ad was placed in an inner-city pedestrian thoroughfare where smokers were known to congregate.

In the pharmacy’s advert for the billboard, the young man tells viewers: ‘We’re the Swedish Pharmacy Hjärtat. Our mission is to help you live a longer and healthier life.

‘That’s why I’m here, to help you get new, healthier habits just in time for the New Year.”
