Nine's ‘The Voice’ launch up from last year; overshadows premiere of Seven's 'Killing Field'

Nine’s star-studded reality show The Voice returned last night to more than 2 million viewers on a busy night of TV that included the launch of Seven’s Killing Field.

The Voice won the night and trampled Seven’s House Rules with 2.155 million people choosing Nine’s singing competition, according to OzTam preliminary ratings.

House Rules was pushed down to Sunday night’s sixth most watched show with 1.093 million viewers, 1.062 million less than The Voice.

The numbers are up from last year’s launch of The Voice, pulling in 304,000 more viewers than 2013’s premiere episode which pulled in 2.003 million.

If you add in the regional viewers around Australia, the peak audience jumps to 2.891 million.

Nine’s main channel scored 28.2% of the network’s total share of 33.6%.

The launch of The Voice overshadowed the debut of Seven’s hyped drama The Killing Field at 8.40pm which pulled in1.166 million viewers.

The debut episode sat just in front of House Rules at 6.30pm.

Seven’s renovation reality show nabbed 1.093 million viewers, only slightly down on the first episode of the new season which pulled in 1.183 million viewers.

Seven came in second with a total combined share of 31.4%.

Seven’s primary channel grabbed 24.4% as other non-news programs to make the top 20 were Sunday Night (995,000 viewers) and the afternoon coverage of the AFL (513,000 viewers).

ABC took out bronze with a total share of 15.8% with ABC1 nabbing 12.2%.

ABC’s most watched non-news program was Inspector George Gently at 8.30pm, pulling in 701,000 viewers.

Restoration Home was just behind with 628,000 viewers and in 11th position out of the top 20.

Ten saw four of its programs within the top 20 last night, with the second episode of Modern Family at 8pm coming 14th with 539,000 viewers.

The first episode of the family comedy at 6.30pm came in 16th place with 509,000 viewers.

Elementary and Ten Eyewitness News grabbed 481,000 and 414,000 viewers respectively, coming in 17th and 19th place.

Ten came in fourth place overall with a total combined share of 12.7% with its main station pulling in 7.9% of the network’s share.

SBS came fifth with a total share of 6.3% as SBS 2 beat out the network’s primary channel by 0.3%. SBS 2 grabbed a share of 3.3%, while SBS One saw 3%.
