With September's Federal Election looming the Seven Network has moved to beef up its 2013 election coverage by adding former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett to its politics stable.

Kennett has been appointed national political commentator at the station after serving 23 years in the Victorian parliament, including 16 years as leader of the Liberal Party.

In his new role, Kennett will provide political commentary and analysis for Seven News and Sunrise, as well as joining Seven’s expert panel on the election night broadcast.

As Victorian Premier through the 1990s, he was regarded  at times controversial political figure, after he cut the public sector, ramped up capital works and kick-started the economy.

“I look forward to the opportunity to make comment on national politics without fear or favour, in layman’s language, and on a constructive basis, with Channel Seven,” said Kennett.

Meanwhile, the ABC has launched an online voters tool.

The interactive online application will help voters engage on important policy issues during the coming federal election campaign.

Called Vote Compass, the tool will allow ABC audiences to compare their views in a number of policy areas with the platforms of political parties.
