Samsung film premieres at the Opera House

A hectic six days for 10 young filmmakers culminated at the Sydney Opera House last night where Samsung unveiled the results of its The Shoot competition.

The Shoot saw 10 filmmakers aged between 17 and 24 create a short film The Pilgrim Report in just six days under the guidance of Samsung ambassador and Baz Luhrmann.

“I’m extremely impressed by what these 10 young filmmakers and NIDA [National Institute of Dramatic Arts] have achieved in just six days,” Arno Lenior, marketing director for Samsung Electronics Australia, said.

Designed to celebrate the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear the competition also allowed Samsung to leverage its sponsorship of the Sydney Opera House’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

“Samsung and our technology is about creating new possibilities, collaborating and sharing, which is what The Shoot embodies. Not many people can say they’ve had their film premiere at the Sydney Opera House, nor do many aspiring filmmakers get the opportunity to learn from the likes of Baz Luhrmann and NIDA,” Lenior added.

“I’m very proud that Samsung has been able to play a role in inspiring and supporting young Australian creative talent and I’m excited to see what these young filmmakers do in the future.”

Meanwhile, Samsung has pledged $200,000 to fund 15 young Indigenous Australians from remote areas of the Northern Territory to participate in IMPACT.

IMPACT is a three-year Indigenous youth leadership program run by the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA)
