Ever wanted to own a piece of the Opera House? Well now you can. Virtually. With virtual tiles on the tallest sail available to the public today for $100 or $400.

As part of the Opera House’s 40th Anniversary celebrations the public can now buy a piece of the tallest sail to become a ‘Housemate’ with proceeds to go to renewing the building and increasing public access to the House.

Tile owners can check out the view from their tile, personalise it with a photo or short message, form virtual tile communities and share it via social media.

Louise Herron, Sydney Opera House chief executive, said: “The Opera House belongs to everyone. This campaign gives people a really tangible, practical way of showing how much they care. It provides the seed funding for the renewal campaign of Australia’s greatest icon.”

The ‘Own Our House’ campaign was created by Edelman and includes a video documenting the changing attitudes towards the House’s famous sails from calls to have its construction halted to the “fierce pride” we feel today.
