Nova 100’s Hughesy & Kate just missed out on a fairytale end to their 12-year breakfast program, dropping back to second place in their final radio ratings survey.
The duo, who wrapped up their Melbourne breakfast show on November 29, has finished their ratings race in second place to Triple M.
The team dropped slightly from 9% of Melbourne’s breakfast radio listeners to 8.4%, putting them behind Southern Cross Austereo’s Triple M with 9.3%.
At the show’s final broadcast held at the Athenaeum Dave Hughes said he and co-host Kate Langbroek would finish number one. While that has not come to fruition they did stay atop of rival’s Matt & Jo on Fox FM.
The Fox FM duo, who wrapped up their decade long show also at the end of November, has finished with a share of 8.3%, according to Nilesen’s final ratings survey for 2014.
While the Nova 100 crew dropped slightly the Fox FM team grew, growing by half a point in their final book from 7.8%.
But the half a point jump was not enough to reclaim the Matt & Jo Show the Melbourne FM breakfast crown they had held for so long.
Fox FM’s drive team Fifi & Jules made up a lot of the ground lost to Nova 100’s Meshel, Tim and Marty, with today’s book the last for both teams.
Fifi & Jules jumped 1.3 points to take 10.2% share of Melbourne’s drive listeners. The large leap puts the team – which is disbanding with Fifi Box moving to host Fox FM’s breakfast with Dave Thornton next year – just 0.6 points behind Nova 100’s.
Meshel, Tim and Marty finished their show on a high, winning a dominant 10.8% share of the important time-slot and overcoming 3AW (10.3%).
The Nova 100 drive team is also changing with Meshel Laurie moving to breakfast and Kate Richie stepping in as her replacement.
In Sydney 2DayFM’s Breakfast with the Stars finished on a high note. Despite dropping 0.8 points the program – lead by Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O (Henderson) – won Sydney’s FM breakfast with a 10.4% share of listeners.
Struggling Mix 106.5 is set to receive a massive boost if Sydney’s FM breakfast radio listeners follow Sandilands’ and Henderson’s defection to the Australian Radio Network (ARN) station.
Mix 106.5, which is rebranding to KIIS 1065, won just 3.3% of the critical timeslot after the axed Sami & Yumi show dropped almost one point.
Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has not yet announced who will be taking over 2DayFM’s breakfast but the network has started a teaser campaign featuring numerous local celebrities (video below).
The growth of DMG Radio Australia’s smoothfm has stalled with a drop of half a point putting the smooth listening channel back to 4.2%. In drive the station shed two full points, dropping from 9.2% to 7.2%.
2GB continues to lead Sydney’s breakfast, growing by one point in this book to reach 17.2%.
In drive the talk station now has a dominant 10.1% share with the narrowing gap between it and 2DayFM widened.
In the previous survey there was just 0.2 points between the stations but the Fifi & Jules show has slid back to 8.8% after a dropping one full point.
The axed Merrick and the Highway Patrol on Triple M added half a point in Sydney (it lost 0.6 points in Melbourne) to sit on 6.1%. SCA announced yesterday that Joe Hildebrand and Matt Tilley would be taking over.
In Brisbane Nova 106.9’s has maintained its dominance in the important breakfast and won drive.
The station increased its breakfast share to 12.1% and added over half-a-point to its drive share to hit 16%.
Station 97.3FM dropped from first to second in breakfast, losing a massive 2.3 points to hit 13.7%. The station maintained its runner-up status in breakfast despite a 0.4 drop to 10.6%.
B105 now sits on 9.8% of breakfast and 11.7% of drive. Triple M lost 1.1 points in breakfast to drop to 8% and lost the same amount in drive to hit 6.5%.
Brisbane’s Classic Hits, 4KQ, added half a point in drive to reach 5%.
In Adelaide 5AA continues to lead breakfast but the gap between it and Mix102.3 is closing.
After dropping from 14.5% to 13.7% in this book 5AA is now just 0.7 points ahead of Mix 102.3. In the previous survey the gap was 1.9 points.
In drive Mix 102.3 leads on 15.6% but 5AA’s fortunes are fading.
In the previous survey 5AA sat on 13.4% but it is now on 11.1%, after a large drop of 2.3 points.
Nova 91.9 also had a sizeable drop of just over one point but maintained its rank with 12.7%.
In Perth, Mix 94.5 has held onto its title as WA’s favourite breakfast station.
Despite a change of breakfast team on October 28 the station’s share remains unchanged from the previous survey, holding strong at 13.7%.
Nova 93.7 is still the slot’s runner-up and now sits on 12%.
96FM lost third place to 6PR after its share declined from 10% to 8.7%. 6PR won 9.5%.
In drive the status-quo among the top four was maintained with no movement in the rankings. Mix 94.5 had the greatest growth, adding 0.7 points to win 13.9% as 96FM lost 0.8 points to hit 10.1%.
