Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) has pulled NSW captain Paul Gallen from its ad campaign for the State of Origin series.
The move comes amid uncertainty surrounding the well-documented issues currently plaguing his club side, the Cronulla Sharks.
The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority’s (ASDA) is investigating the club as part of its crackdown on alleged doping by NRL clubs.
Last year, Gallen, alongside Queensland captain Cameron Smith, starred in an Origin-themed CUB campaign in bottleshops in the two states.
However, the Telegraph has reported that Gallen’s management has approached CUB to ask that Gallen would not be available this year.
Gallen’s NSW team-mate Robbie Farah was this week drafted in to replace him for this year’s renewal of the ad campaign.
Gallen will remain on an ambassador for the label, with the brewery expected to call upon his services in the future.
Last month the chief marketing officer of CUB, Andy Gibson, quit the post to take up a job in London as the chief marketing officer and president of Bacardi Global Brands.
