MKR winner announcement falls short from last year’s

The grand finale of Seven’s My Kitchen Rules may have smashed the competition, however the 2.596 million that tuned into last night’s results show was down from the previous year’s 2.95 million.

While the announcement of the winners may have grabbed more than 2.5 million, the high pressure cook-off segment that saw well-travelled friends Chloe and Kelly against proud mums, Bree and Jessica last night drew in 2.302 million, according to OzTam preliminary ratings.

Sydneysiders and Melbournians rallied for top place of highest number of viewers for the two and a half hour show at 7.30pm show however Sydney scraped through as 732,000 watched the winners announcement compared to the 722,000 in Melbourne.

MKR has come under controversy lately when “bullies” Chloe and Kelly scraped through to the final with one point.

The creation of a Facebook page even led to some viewers vowing to “boycott” watching the final.

Seven dominated the share yesterday with a total combined share of 42.8%, with its primary channel that broadcast the MKR finale grabbing 36.6%.

Nine was in second place with a total share of 22.9% with its main station seeing 17.1% of that share.

The top four shows from yesterday were all from Seven as the network’s news at 6pm and 6.30pm fell behind the MKR announcement and grand finale.

Nine’s first non-news show in the top 20 were the two episodes of The Big Bang Theory at 7.30 and 8pm, grabbing 893,000 and 897,000 viewers respectively.

Seven’s Intelligence which premiered last week pulled in 697,000 viewers and was in 14th place.

Mom on Nine at 8.30pm last night scraped into 16th position with 677,000 viewers, while Hot Seat saw 674,000 viewers in 18th place.

ABC grabbed third place with a total share of 16.6% with ABC1 seeing a share of 12.3%.

The network’s top show for the night was ABC News who nabbed just shy of a million viewers (951,000 viewers).

The repeat episode of New Tricks at 8.30pm fell into 17th position with 675,000 viewers.

Ten only saw one show in the top 20 from yesterday, Ten Eyewitness News which saw 661,000 viewers and was pushed down into 19th place.

Ten’s total share for the night was 13.8% with 9.3% going to its primary channel.
