EBay in two-way shoot out for Xmas campaign

EXCLUSIVE: EBay has been holding a quiet pitch for its Christmas campaign between incumbent creative agency Leo Burnett Sydney and Havas Worldwide Sydney, B&T understands.

The pitch comes six months after former PayPal APAC boss Steve Brennan was installed as head of marketing and advertising sales at EBay, replacing David Odgers.

In July the site partnered with Rubicon Project to launch a programmatic ad buying exchange, which they claim is the largest private exchange in Australia.

It is believed the auction site is planning a large above-the-line assault in the run up to the holiday season, as it looks to lure more Aussies away from bricks and mortar stores to the world of e-commerce.

A statement from the site said: "EBay always strives to deliver the best creative work we can and this mean working with a number of agencies at any one time.

"Leo Burnett’s continue to be our creative agency and we have no plans on pitching our core creative business out."

Leos has held the account since 2010, when it successfully wrested it from Whybin\TBWA.

Many retailers are hoping one or other of the parties wins a definitive majority in tomorrow’s election which many analysts believe could lead to a surge in consumer confidence, and therefore spending.
