Cirrus Media super-charges health portfolio

Australia’s largest B2B publisher, Cirrus Media, has entered into an agreement to acquire the country’s largest independent consumer information healthcare website, mydr.com.au, and the weekly medical newspaper, Medical Observer, from MIMS. MIMS will retain its medical drug data business.

Cirrus Media CEO, Jeremy Knibbs, commented: “Cirrus is ideally placed to pick up and develop these two flagship medical media brands. MIMS focus is shifting to its drug data business, whereas our strength is in developing media brands, particularly through deeper digital engagement, events and content.”

MyDr brings significant dimension for us in the rapidly evolving online consumer health market, all of which we can leverage through our strong portfolio of professional information channels to doctors. Medical Observer is a significant addition to our portfolio of channels to doctors.”

MIMS CEO, Siobhan Murphy, said “The MIMS data services business has grown significantly over the past few years and is now a fully subscription funded business. Customers range from State health departments and major clinical information system providers to the full spectrum of health care professionals.  Accelerated growth in the clinical information area, especially at State and hospital level, presents opportunities to further expand the MIMS footprint into these emerging markets.”

“The sale of Medical Observer and MyDr to Cirrus Media will ensure that clients and readers continue to have access to the high quality news and medical information resources that they have been accustomed to.”

The sale is expected to complete 31 January 2014.
