Circul8 supports the Barrier Reef with 1 million reasons

Digital agency Circul8 has kicked off a campaign of a million reasons to save the Great Barrier Reef.

The campaign, fro Greenpeace Australia, highlights reasons to save the world famous reef from the effects of dredging to build a new coal infrastructure.

Circul8’s campaign is based around a Reasons to Save the Reef website, which uses Google to aggregate reef-related images using hashtags, and asks users to upload their own reasons as an image or text.

The site is integrated with social media and gives users the opportunity to send environment minister Tony Burke an email making him aware of reasons.

Circul8’s creative director Jamie Madden said: “If you Google image search ‘The Great Barrier Reef’, there are literally as many results as there are fish in the sea. We figure each of these images represents a reason to protect the reef from the harmful effects of dredging and the construction of new coal terminals, we wanted to encourage story-telling, created something visually beautiful and give Greenpeace a powerful campaign tool with which engage Australians and to lobby the government.”

James Lorenz, communications manager at Greenpeace, added: “As a campaigner, presenting a decision-maker like environment minister Tony Burke with one million reasons to the save an international icon like the Great Barrier Reef makes it difficult to argue against.”
