ABC’s ‘The Brief’ launches today

ABC Innovation has launched its new tablet app today called ‘The Brief’ that rounds up various stories from the week for readers onto tablet and mobile format.

The app will showcase a variety of content such as news and current affairs, sport, movies and profiles and will be headed up by former Fairfax Media journalist, Matt Buchanan.

Mark Scott, ABC managing director, said: "We know our audiences want ABC content anytime, anywhere. ‘The Brief’ is part of our journey to understand how we can reimagine and repurpose ABC’s broadcast content for tablets.”

ABC director of innovation, Angela Clark, also added: “The Brief explores new territory for the ABC in creating a rich, interactive custom tablet experience that we hope will harness the breadth and depth of the ABC’s media to new audiences.

“Tablets are an increasingly important device for media consumption and are often considered a more ‘personal device’ so we are keen to understand what audiences want on a tablet and the potential of these devices for immersive media experiences.”

‘The Brief’ will be published every Friday and is available on iOS now and Adrioid in due course.

This week’s stories: “Discover why Australians are the world’s biggest torrenters, take a tour of the new Double J, stalk the troubled corridors of power with Quentin Dempster, find out everything you wanted to know about Pussy Riot but were too afraid to ask, and flashback to a galaxy far, far away…”

The ABC will also be inviting customer feedback on each edition.
