1,823 cities move Melbourne's remote control tourists

Tourism Victoria’s remote controllable tourist campaign has gone global, with the live-streaming holiday guinea pigs reaching every continent except Antarctica.

The four real-life tourists – equipped with bikes and live streaming cameras – engaged with people from than 122 different countries in the first two days of the campaign since launch on October 9.

People from more than 1,823 cities have played with the virtual Melbourne tourist experience in its first two days. The Tourism Vic and Clemenger BBDO campaign has also won the attention of international press.

The campaign has received air-time on a Tennessee TV station according to Mango, the PR agency behind the campaign, and more than 1,170 tweets were actioned by the Remote Control Tourists during the first two days.

The remote controllable tourists are no longer online but in the first two days when they were available to direct they were sent to consume 21 coffees and 14 desserts.

Two Kung Fu lessons were completed and one busking session occurred with almost 50 kilometres travelled.
