Budget 'pleased' with public response to aliens, launch new TVCs

Budget Direct is looking to answer the questions posed by the sudden ditching of Michelle and Michael for aliens with its next two TVCs, and introduce another new character Dave.

The insurance brand claims it was the most talked about brand in insurance when ditched its famous pairing for the alien couple for the new campaign last month, and is keen to capitalize on the buzz with the new ads launching tonight and Monday.

Digital marketing director Jonathan Kerr said: “We’ve been inundated with questions about Zeek and Zia, where are they from, why are they here, have the previous characters been abducted by our aliens?

“We’ve had just about every reaction imaginable. People angry that we copied our own advert, kids telling us they love Zeek and Zia and singing our famous song, we’ve even had Hamish and Andy trying to figure out what we are up to on their radio show.

“So far in terms of cut through and sheer weight of brand mentions, compared to our competitors who launched the new TV ads at the same time, we’re really excited about how the new campaign has started.”

The pair also have thousands of fans on Facebook, with Zeek using his page to showcase smart design from around the world and Zia passing on lifestyle tips.

The first of the two new TVCs goes to air tonight and features Zeek startling neighbor Dave by suddenly appearing in his driveway as he freaks out about his car insurance renewal, before telling him about Budget.

According to Budget the next ad will show how smart the alien pairing are, and the campaign will roll on to outdoor, online display and other activities. The campaign has been created by Hulsbosch, with animation by Liquid Animation.
