Telstra hands Buckman digital role

Telstra has handed chief marketing officer Mark Buckman added responsibility of heading up the digital media and IPTV division for the telco, after incumbent J.B. Rousselot decided to step down.

Buckman, the current marketer of the year, will now be charged with overseeing the department which includes the MOG music streaming service and Big Pond.

An internal announcement on Friday said: “There are some great synergies in these portfolios as we think about the future of the DM&I business from an inside out as well as an outside in point of view.

“For example, our sponsorship and digital content strategies are closely aligned and this move will ensure we continue to better integrate our programs.”

Rousselot announced his resignation from the company he has been with for a decade on Friday, and it is understood he will be returning to France for a period.

Telstra has been ramping up its digital offering in recent months, and has recently acquired the digital rights for the new NRL season, to add to those it owns for the AFL.

The announcement added: “This expanded role is a natural extension of Mark’s portfolio. He joined us almost two years ago and in this time has overseen a remarkable transformation of our marketing capability.

“We have made some major inroads on our journey to become a true sales and marketing led organisation.”

Former adman Adam Good, who came back to Australia last year to join the Telstra digital team, is among the new management team Buckman will be in charge of.
