Tooheys Forced To Pull Origin Ad After Offering Recovering Alcoholic Zac Efron A Case Of Beer

Tooheys has been forced to pull a campaign after it jokingly offered the Hollywood actor Zac Efron a case of beer if he supported the NSW Blues in next week’s State Of Origin. Problem was, Efron is a recovering alcoholic.

The cheeky ad is fronted by NRL great Nathan Hindmarsh and offered Efron, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and Chris Hemsworth – all of whom are currently residing in the state – a case of Tooheys New if they backed the Blues.

However, Efron went public with his booze battle way back in 2014 and has been sober for the past seven years. He’s now a strong advocate of a healthy, alcohol-free lifestyle.

The mistimed ad has since been pulled by the brewer who has also issued an apology.

That said, the goodly folk over at The Daily Mail are still airing it.  Check it out below:

Tooheys’ apology read: “Yesterday we shared what was intended to be a light-hearted message to encourage some of our resident Hollywood celebrities to back the Blues in the upcoming State of Origin series. We understand that it missed the mark and sincerely apologise for any offence or upset caused.”

Neither Efron, Hemsworth, Damon or Wahlberg have publicly commented on the stunt.
