“We’ll Even Block Ourselves!”: The Chaser Skewers Harvey Norman Following Twitter Meltdown

In a week where #boycottHarveyNorman has been trending on Twitter, The Chaser showing up at the doors of a store was never going to spell good news for the retailer.

In case you’ve missed it, Harvey Norman copped huge backlash online over the weekend, after its official Twitter account mocked users, including one person who claimed working at one of the company’s stores had drove them to suicidal ideation.

It was also reported that Harvey Norman had been blocking Twitter users that had been publicly supporting a wage increase for staff – as workers push for a 3.5 per cent pay rise.

The strange activity of the Harvey Norman Twitter account ultimately resulted in #boycottHarveyNorman to start trending online.

In light of the backlash, Harvey Norman has since deleted its official Twitter account.

But the trouble did not stop there for Gerry Harvey’s company.

Yesterday, comedy group The Chaser shared a video of a man standing outside of a Harvey Norman show spruiking fake deals.

“We’re on a total Twitter blocking bonanza,” he said.

“Hell we’ve even got discounts on our workers.

“We’ve gone absolutely crazy on Twitter, blocking anyone. We’ll even block our workers, we’ll block union members, hell we’ll even block ourselves.”

“There’s absolutely no one off-limits when it comes to blocking!”
