This is Flow founder, Jimmy Hyett (pictured), is one of a group of Australia’s top business leaders to participate in the inaugural ‘CEO Skydive for Mental Health’ on Friday 30 April.

Hyett, representing the media industry, will help to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute and their critical research that helps support mental health and suicide prevention.

The pressures of recent events including COVID-19 and the Australian Bushfires of 2019/2020, have resulted in an increase in mental health issues in Australia.

Research from the Black Dog Institute, the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across a life span, shows 78 per cent of Australians said their mental health had worsened as a result of COVID.  One in five working-age Australians are currently experiencing mental illness, most commonly depression and anxiety.

“There’s an inherent mental pressure running a business, managing and supporting staff while trying to control your own work life balance. I work in a people industry, our staff, clients, partners, turn up and do their job, and on the surface, seem to have it all together. However, most of the time all we see is the positive exterior and sometimes it is so easy to miss the ones hiding the noise that is running through their mind,” Hyett said.

“Black Dog Institute provides this sounding board with amazing results, and I’m more than happy to support this initiative by doing something out of my comfort zone, and as a reminder to stop focusing on my own world, and open my eyes to everyone around me,” he added.

The event will be held at Skydive Australia’s Wollongong Dropzone starting at 8:30am and followed by a casual beachside celebratory lunch and the announcement of the total funds raised for this initiative.
