“A Silly Little Girl Who Got Drunk!” Radio Host Jeremy Cordeaux Sacked After Attack On Brittany Higgins

Adelaide radio personality Jeremy Cordeaux (pictured), who hosted FIVEaa’s weekend breakfast show, has been sacked after referring to alleged rape victim Brittany Higgins as a ‘silly little girl who got drunk’.

On his Sunday morning breakfast show, Cordeaux said, “Ms Higgins has been called a lightning rod and she’s been given an awful lot of power.”

“I just ask myself why the prime-minister doesn’t call it out for what it is – a silly little girl who got drunk.”

He went on to criticise the security guards who let Higgins into parliament House the night of the alleged rape.

“Can you imagine security taking someone who was drunk, so drunk I think the young lady said during the week on television she couldn’t get shoes on.”

Higgins has been subjected to vitriol since coming forward with the allegation that a fellow Liberal staffer raped her in Defense Minister Linda Reynolds’ office. Reynolds called Higgins a “lying cow.”

Kate Ellis, former Labor MP for Adelaide, said “this sort of garbage is one of the reasons so few survivors of sexual assault ever speak up and it is the kind of victim-blaming that belongs in centuries past.”

On Monday Ellis will release an insider book about sexism in federal politics called Sex, Lies And Question Time.

After Cordeaux’s comments, FiveAA breakfast host David Penberthy, who is married to Ellis, announced that his contract had been terminated.

In a statement that Penberthy read on air, the station said, “We acknowledge that the comments were completely inappropriate and offensive.”

“The views expressed by Jeremy Cordeaux do not reflect those held by FiveAA and Nova Entertainment and we unequivocally withdraw them.”
