After broadcasting their breakfast show while suspended from a billboard, Nova 919’s Ben & Liam will now take to the skies after securing their own station helicopter.

When COVID-19 first struck in 2020, and swarms of Adelaideans were asked to stay home, Ben and Liam sprang into action by purchasing a clapped-out old limousine, the Ben & Liam-o, to drop essential items to listeners around Adelaide.

Fast forward to 2021 and the pair have decided to take it up a notch by selling the limousine to purchase their very own helicopter.

With the sale of the limo “not exactly” securing the types of funds needed, the pair turned their attention to fundraising, but their ‘lemonade stand and car wash’ left the boys still light on cash and with plenty more work to do.

However, the pair put out a call on-air to see if any listeners could loan them a helicopter, with Adelaide Flight school “Helistar” Shane Yeend answering the call and offering to loan Ben and Liam a helicopter to act as the show’s very own.

Upon answering the boys’ call for help, Shane Yeend said: “I’m a shareholder in an aviation group. We have a fleet, we run everything from the Westpac helicopter flying schools and probably the largest aviation group in South Australia.

“We’ve got a shed full of them down the beach … what colour do you want?”

After confirming the details, a visibly excited Liam said: “Can we just give me a bit of a clap because I just managed to turn –$70 and some pizza into a $1.4 million chopper?”

Taking to the skies, the Nova 919 Ben & Liam Chopper is open for business to transport listeners to school, uni, work or wherever they need to go.

Tune into Nova 919’s Ben & Liam breakfast show from 6am to 9am weekdays, check out all the action at novafm.com.au or on Ben & Liam’s Instagram.
