Aussies Choose Cannabis As Drug Of Choice (After Alcohol) During Pandemic

As lockdown continues to drag on in Australia and mental health issues are on the rise, so too is the use of cannabis.

In fact, the plant is Australian’s second drug of choice behind alcohol.

According to an article on Crikey, Self-reported cannabis usage has risen during COVID-19 lockdown, while medical cannabis approvals are at an all-time high, soaring by nearly 40 per cent since the government’s telehealth initiative was introduced in April.

Aussies are turning to cannabius for prescribed medication, self-medication, out of boredom, and as an alternative to toher substances like cocaine and MDMA.

And, it’s not just Aussies finding the benefits of marijuana during lockdown. Elsewhere in the world, cannabis usage also continues to soar.

A local dispensary in Colorado has opened four marijuana vending machines, with flower, edible, and vape oil options.

The anna vending machine can hold up to 2,000 products. These machines are tailored toward the “experienced cannabis customers who don’t necessarily need that one-on-one interaction with a budtender,” CEO and founder Matt Frost told The Denver Post.

Sales of marijuana in the US have been up since March, when cannabis users started to “stockpile” marijuana as lockdown orders came into place across the country.
