“I Wouldn’t Cross The Road To Watch It”: Steve Price Under Fire For AFLW Comments

Steve Price has come under siege for comments he made on Triple M about the AFLW competition.

Speaking with Eddie McGuire on Hot Breakfast in Melbourne, Price questioned the financial investment into the emerging competition.

“I was talking to a (Richmond) club official at the ground on Sunday … they reckon it’s going to cost them $1 million for the four games. Is that a good spend?” Price said.

“I wouldn’t cross the road to watch it.

“Governments are shaming you into supporting women’s football so that you can get infrastructure built.

“I love female sport, but the amount of money we’re ploughing into this is ridiculous.”

The first person to critique Price’s comments was McGuire, who told the shockjock “you’ve got to expand your mind on these things”.

“It’s going to be an absolute revolution for our game — it’s the next stage,” McGuire said.

“Women are not being carried along by the AFL. Quite the opposite. They are propelling this game to new heights.”

Criticism levelled at Price continued off air.

“Can someone please press the mute button on Steve Price? He’s embarrassing himself,” said The Age‘s journalist Sam McClure.

“Surely @mmmhotbreakfast Steve Price has demonstrated today that he isn’t worth a second on your show?? Why have a Sydney person poison Melbourne conversation?” said a Twitter user.

Steve Price, get in the fucking bin,” said another.
