Disney announced that its streaming service Disney Plus, which was launched in November, has altogether gained 28.6 million subscribers.

The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said: “As of Monday, the service had gained 28.6 million subscribers.”

The company had approximately 10 million sign-ups on its first day. Disney estimated the goal of gaining 60 to 90 million subscribers by 2024.

Disney Plus is streaming in a few international countries including Australia and New Zealand. It is about to launch in many Europeans countries and UK on 24 March.

Disney is streaming shows like ‘Star Wars’ and ‘The Mandalorian’ which gained a number of followers. According to Parrot Analytics,  ‘The Mandalorian’ was recorded as the most in-demand online streaming series. The character of Baby Yoda from ‘The Mandalorian’ became a huge hit among the viewers.

Currently, Netflix has 167 million subscribers internationally, with 60 million subscribers from the US. Hulu, another streaming service controlled by Disney has recently reached 30.7 million US subscriber.

Disney Plus has somehow affected Netflix’s recent earnings reports. With Disney Plus expanding its viewers in the US, Netflix missed its growth targets. Disney Plus has become a tough competition to Netflix.

Although 28.6 million might look like a small number of subscribers compared to Netflix, Disney Plus has gained that many viewers in less than three months since its launch.
