“I’d Lose My Sh*t!”: Readers Furious After BBC Suggests Serving Just One Potato Per Person In Christmas Roast

“I’d Lose My Sh*t!”: Readers Furious After BBC Suggests Serving Just One Potato Per Person In Christmas Roast

If ever there is a meal where portion sizes err on the bigger side, it is the Christmas roast.

But a relatively conservative recipe from the BBC Good Food magazine has come under fire for suggesting just “two small or one large” potato per person is “plenty”.

British PR Alice Pope shared an image of the recipe to social media, with the accompanying message, “I love BBC Good Food magazine but this is just all kinds of wrong, imagine a Christmas with one roast potato each,” he said.

“Christmas is a time of excess and also your roasties are clearly too small,” she followed up.

The post has now been retweeted over 500 times, and has built up a strong groundswell of support from Christmas roast enthusiasts around the internet.

“This was written by either a) a psychopath or b) someone in an acrimonious and loveless relationship with no fortitude who is trying to force the other to call for the split. Or both,” said one social media user.

“This does not account for leftovers. Leftovers is the crux of Christmas. It fuels for the rest of the week, making food prep super easy. I cannot endorse the lack of leftovers,” said another.

“I’d lose my sh** if I was served just ‘one’ roast potato regardless of how many times it has been cut,” one person wrote.

Despite the social media backlash, the BBC has since doubled down on its one potato policy, even releasing an infographic detailing the decision.

But in trying to justify the stance, BBC is now being criticised for the 100ml of gravy suggestion.

100ml of gravy? Are you insane? At the very least 250ml/half a pint is about right,” a Twitter user said.
