Seven Set To Go Big For Tokyo 2020 Olympics Coverage

The Seven Network today confirmed that it will attempt to make history with its all-encompassing coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

At Seven’s 2019 Allfronts in Sydney today chief digital officer Clive Dickens announced that the network will screen and stream over 3500 hours of coverage from Japan, across 52 live event streams and numerous ultra high definition live channels.

Furthermore, Seven announced that, during the Games, it will be the first Australian media company to host an 8K ultra high definition live sport site screening.

Dickens said: Tokyo 2020 will be the most watched Olympics ever, more even than Sydney 2000. Once again, our Aussies will be going for Gold, and Seven will be supporting them every step of the way across our broadcast channels and on 7plus, which last week was Australia’s number one BVOD live and VOD streaming commercial FTA platform.

“We are committed to showing more coverage, in higher quality, across more screens than any sporting event in Australian history. And we’re proud to announce the debut of 8K sport in Australia as part of a very special event to celebrate the Greatest Show On Earth.”

Chief revenue officer and director of Olympics at Seven, Kurt Burnette, said: As marketers look to counter fragmentation of audience and choice, there will be no bigger guaranteed aggregator of audience than Tokyo 2020.

“The innovation 7 will deliver for the ultimate consumer and advertiser experience will be next level. Around an event that will capture the hearts and minds of the world and especially Australians – all in our time zone. The Road to Tokyo launches early next year.”

Seven’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics broke records, with the latter ensuring Seven rated number one in every market and every key demographic throughout the 17 days of the competition. In total Seven’s coverage reached 16 million viewers, with 103.8 million total minutes live streamed and 4.5 million cumulative reach on 7Olympics Social.
