Bachie Contestant In Hot Water Over Racist Instagram Slur

Only one week in and already a contestant on Network Ten’s The Bachelor is making headlines for a now-deleted Instagram post which used racist hashtags.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Shannon Baff (pictured below) was forced to delete a post on Instagram with hashtags which included the n-word.

Baff, who was the first contestant chosen for a single date with Bachelor Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins, has apologised “deeply” for the hashtags and said the use of the word was part of an in-joke with a friend who is a person of colour.

In a statement provided to B&T, a Ten spokesperson said: “Shannon has removed the hashtags and is deeply sorry for any offence she may have caused.”

This series of the Bachie has had record ratings since its debut last Wednesday.

The strongest launch of the show in its six-year history, last Wednesday’s premiere of The Bachelor Australia drawing in a metro audience of 940,000 – the largest number of viewers for a launch episode in the show’s history.

If we compare it to last year’s season launch with Matty Johnson, that episode garnered 846,000 viewers.
