Radio Ratings Spell Bad News All Round For Nova’s smoothfm In Sydney
NOVA Entertainment’s smoothfm has dropped off the pace in every single time slot in the Sydney market, surrendering its second spot for overall market share to ABC Sydney, according to the latest radio ratings.
GfK, the official provider of radio ratings for Commercial Radio Australia, today released its fourth survey for the year, which showed a big 2.2 per cent drop in overall market share for Nova’s easy listening station in Sydney, compared to the previous ratings survey.
The evening slot saw the biggest decline in market share (-2.9 per cent), followed by afternoon (-2.8 per cent), morning (-2.17 per cent), drive (-2.5 per cent), weekend (-2.2 per cent) and breakfast (-1.3 per cent).
On the plus side, smooth has continued its reign as the number one FM station in Sydney overall for the third consecutive survey with 9.1 per cent market share, while Australian Radio Network’s WSFM and KIIS 1065 sit behind in second (8.6 per cent) and third (8.1 per cent) respectively.
Here’s a breakdown of who was up and who was down in each of the metro radio markets:
SYDNEY
Macquarie Radio Network’s 2GB has increased its lead in Sydney for overall market share by 0.5 per cent to 11.9 per cent, while ABC Sydney has moved into second with 9.5 per cent, and smoothfm lost a massive 2.2 per cent in overall market share to fall to third with 9.1 per cent.

First: 2GB (up 0.1 per cent to 13.9 per cent)
Second: ABC Sydney (up 1.3 per cent to 11.9 per cent)
Third: KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O (up 0.3 per cent to 10.0 per cent)
Drive
First: Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty (up 1.2 per cent to 11.7 per cent)
Second: smoothfm (down 2.5 per cent to 9.9 per cent)
Third: ABC Sydney (down 0.1 per cent to 9.2 per cent)
MELBOURNE
Macquarie’s 3AW has held on to top spot overall in Melbourne despite its market share dropping 1.1 per cent to 14.4. per cent. Fox FM also held its second placing with an 0.1 per cent share increase to 9.9 per cent, and smoothfm remained in third with 9.4 per cent (up 0.1 per cent).

Third: Nova’s Kate, Tim & Marty (no change at 9.7 per cent)
BRISBANE
Not even a 1.7 per cent market share drop to 14.1 per cent could deny Nova 106.9 the number one ranking overall in Brisbane, while 97.3fm solidified its position in second with a 1.2 per cent share increase to 12.5 per cent, and Hit105 remained in third with 11.4 per cent (up 0.4 per cent).

Mix 102.3 has regained top spot in Adelaide with an overall market share rise of 0.7 per cent to 12.8 per cent, bumping FIVEaa down to second (down 0.6 per cent to 11.7 per cent), and Triple M moved up into third with a 0.7 per cent share increase to 10.9 per cent while Mix

Third: Hit107 (up 1.1 per cent to 11.8 per cent)
PERTH
Nova went one better this survey for overall market share in Perth, finishing first with 14.1 per cent (up 0.4 per cent). Mix 94.5 fell to second with 13.7 per cent (down 1.0 per cent), and Hit92.9 remained steady with 11.0 per cent market share.
