Woman With Down Syndrome Lands Weather Presenter Job After Facebook Campaign

As regular readers would know, B&T loves nothing more than a weather presenter story. And, yes, even we admit they’re typically to do with the presenter swearing, losing their clothes live to air, or weather patterns shaped like genitalia.

But today we’re delighted to bring you a decent, heart-warming tale involving meteorology.

It follows the story of a young French girl Mélanie Ségard who also happens to have Down syndrome.

The 21-year-old had dreamt of reading the weather on a news station and began a social media campaign to make it happen. The campaign titled “Mélanie peut le faire” (or “Mélanie can do it”) got 100,000 people to get onboard and she’s now had two offers from two networks – France 2 and BFMTV – to fulfil her dream.

“I am different, but I would like to show everyone that I can do plenty of things. I want to prove it by appearing on TV,” she said.

A spokesperson for Unapei, the charity behind Mélanie’s campaign, added: “Today, people with a disability are invisible. The 100,000 likes are a sign of strong support – we are taken aback at how quickly the page became a success.”

According to a report on UK’s The Telegraph, Mélanie will maker her TV debut on March 27. You go, girl!
