Out, Loud and Proud: Holden Sponsors Mardi Gras

It’s Holden’s view that companies aren’t logos. Or buildings. Or car brands. Companies are made of people. And the people who make up Holden, come from all walks of life. That’s why diversity is important to Holden.

Now Holden is putting its money where its mouth is and stepping up to be the 2017 Official Mardi Car in a new partnership with the 2017 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade on 4 March 2017. Ashley Winnett, Executive Director of Human Resources at Holden, says, Holden’s commitment to equality goes much deeper than the (admittedly fabulous) rainbow car wrap.

“We’re so excited to show our support as the automotive partner of this year’s Mardi Gras. At Holden, we believe in equal rights for all and to be in solidarity with a community our employees are already a part of means a lot.

“In the last year we’ve made some huge steps in the equality and diversity space and not just in our support of LGBT+ campaigns like Mardi Gras, Midsumma Carnival, Fair Day and marriage equality.

“We’ve also introduced a paid leave policy for employees impacted by family and domestic violence, we’ve extended paid maternity leave to paid paternity leave to give men the same period of paid leave as women and we worked with Collingwood football club to restructure our sponsorship to better support women’s football and grassroots sport.”

“We know Holden isn’t perfect and we still have a long way to go but we’re out and we’re proud and with an exciting weekend ahead, Holden is looking forward to showing support to our friends, colleagues and families in the LGBT+ community.”

Leading the Parade and wearing brand new rainbow suits, Holden’s Mardi Cars will take big name stars including US singer Steve Grand, funny-man Bob Down and fabulous drag legend Cindy Pastel through the Sydney streets for the extravaganza.
